I recently visited Asakusa Imahan Bekkan, and today I'd like to introduce its charms!
First, one of the main reasons I adore this place is its building. Nestled on a back street parallel to Senso-ji Nakamise, the establishment is a Registered Cultural Property designated by the Agency for Cultural Affairs.
The courtyard in the center of the private rooms also creates a wonderful atmosphere, truly evoking the essence of Asakusa!
As you walk, the floorboards creak, making you truly feel the profound history of the building.
When you hear 'Imahan,' various establishments might come to mind, but this Imahan Bekkan is also a renowned sukiyaki restaurant, continuing its business in front of Asakusa's main gate since its founding in 1921. It is said to have branched off from the original Imahan Honten, founded in 1895, opening independently and now operating under a separate management.
Sukiyaki is served at the end of the course, but I highly recommend adding some of their delicious à la carte seasonal dishes to your meal🎵
Since my visit was in early summer, I enjoyed corn tempura.
The okami (proprietress) prepares the meat for you, so you can relax and enjoy.
You can enjoy a dining experience that evokes the essence of Japan's four seasons, which is why it's said to be a popular choice for entertaining international guests.
Since it's very close to Senso-ji Temple, I recommend planning a visit to Asakusa Imahan Bekkan as part of your sightseeing itinerary. When you do, it might be a good idea to consider that most of Asakusa's street stalls tend to close around 5 PM when making your plans!
Hoppy Dori is also just a short walk from Imahan, so it might be a good idea to further savor Asakusa by visiting it as your second stop!
